Searlus and the Sailor:

She Sauntered Into the Belly of the Cursed Beast Willingly, Now She’s Locked in His Arms Forever…

No one in the Kingdom really knows what their King looks like. Though many have been in his presence, everyone soon forgets their time at the castle once they exit its gates. It’s been said that he is an enchantment gone wrong, a chimera with a form so ghastly that no one, even those granted payment for their company, has been able to stomach.

That is until a handsome, but despondent sailor shows up at his door.

Andre Belle Dubois never expected to stay in His Majesty’s castle for six months! And she especially didn’t expect to fall in love with a beast! You’d think that a formal courtship with His Majesty would make declaring one’s feelings easy. But the crass and unladylike sailor keeps ruining her chances. Just when Belle’s figured it all out, a coup brews on the outskirts of the Kingdom and threatens her happily ever-after.

Intensely romantic and deliciously taboo, Searlus and the Sailor is a Beauty and the Beast retelling unlike any other, capturing the struggles of not fitting in and the courage it takes to love someone whom society deems unworthy.

Throughout this gripping monster romance, readers will:

  • Go on a rollercoaster of emotions as they indulge in a dangerously erotic and scintillatingly taboo romantic fantasy retelling of Beauty and the Beast
  • Find themselves yearning for more as Belle and Searlus fulfill their every burning desire in each other’s arms, against all odds
  • And so much more

    Not your average retelling!

I am absolutely blown away by Mordelle’s imaginative storytelling and unforgettable characters in this unique Beauty and the Beast retelling. It is more than just outstanding; it is a masterpiece that has left me speechless (well, almost)…

“Searlus and the Sailor” is a slow-burning romantic tale that takes place in an enchanted castle. It follows the story of a cursed King named Searlus and the tenacious woman, Andre Belle Bonnet, who challenges him at every turn. Despite the obstacles that stand in the way of their future together, love ultimately triumphs over doubts and villainous schemes.

The story unfolds as if reading from Belle’s diary, each chapter dedicated to a new entry. Although I would have loved to hear Searlus’ viewpoint, the concept of telling the story this way is so unusual that it’s hard not to fall under its spell – especially with Belle’s humorous musings!

One of the things I loved most about this story is Belle’s bold sexuality and the gender-fluidity of some of the characters, including Belle. I must share my favorite quote below, which had me snickering but also swooning in admiration:

✨”Oh, Belle, trust your father,” he reassured me, “give it some time. He needs lessons! Don your sailor’s hat and take the lead until he knows how to treat you in return. Work him like those virgin barmaids you were so fond of!”✨

This leads me to mention the noteworthy secondary characters, Belle’s father Marcus, and the Royal Healer, Emma, who share a romance of their own. And, of course, Lawrence! They add comic relief, heart, and wisdom, making this story even more satisfying.

Now for Searlus, an intriguing and complex character who turned into a “monster” as an infant thanks to an alchemist who used exotic animals to save his life. He has a kind soul but lives in fear and self-loathing, which leads to much of the conflict between Belle and himself. Searlus’ primal desire and love for Belle ultimately lead to explosive and sensually taboo scenes of passion, making their relationship truly forbidden.

The way Mordelle has crafted this story is truly remarkable, and I cannot recommend it enough!!

    Very Adult Fairy Tell

Wonderful job keeping the story the same but changing it to be an adult story without going over the top. Found this on a book blog or would have probably never found it on Amazon.

Just devoured it in one sitting

I actually started the first couple of chapters, not totally into this, but then got completely sucked in and finished the whole book in one sitting. There are a couple of spelling errors, and for sure I had a hard time now and then with the purring and realizing that he is a “beast”, but this is definitely a fun steamy read. The journal concept is super cute, and there were a couple of plot twists etc, that were very well done and made for a more layered story then I was expecting. It is definitely an adult story, but there are some cute nods to the original as well.
